Who Can Apply For a Change of Name Certificate in BC With This Application?

This site is available for use by the legal profession and general public to obtain British Columbia Government approved and official change of name certificates issued by the government agency as an independent authorized agent.

BC name change certificates may be released to:

  • The person changing his or her name; or
  • A parent of the person who is subject to the certificate, if that person is less than 19 years of age.

Certificates ordered with regular service average 15 business days to be processed and delivered.

Certificates ordered with rush service average 5 to 8 business days to be processed and delivered.

Service times listed above are approximations and are not guaranteed. Incomplete or inaccurate applications will significantly delay processing time. Changes cannot be made once an order has been placed.

Fees include all taxes, search, shipping and processing charges.

If no record of the name change is found by the British Columbia Vital Statistics Agency, fees will be applied to the search cost and will not be refunded by the Agency.

All change of name certificates in BC are sent directly from the BC Vital Statistics Agency.

The change of name certificate contains the details of the person who has legally changed their name. The certificate also contains the person’s previous and new names, registration number, and date of registration.
