Birth Certificates are available for order from this website for events that occurred within the Province of British Columbia.

If you are obtaining a birth certificate for someone who is deceased or you are applying for a child and you are not a parent listed on the birth registration you must contact the BC Vital Statistics Agency directly at 1-888-876-1633 or 250-952-2681.

IMPORTANT:  No more than two of each type of certificate or certified copy will be issued. All delivery times quoted are average delivery times and cannot be guaranteed. If you are applying for a birth certificate for a particular agency or organization, it is best to check with them to determine what type of birth certificate they require from you.

Although you may order a rush service there are certain circumstances that will take longer to receive your certificate, such as a recent birth as the registration may not yet be completed.

A birth certificate with parental information is required in order to obtain a passport for a child. Includes the same information as a birth certificate, along with the name of each parent listed on the birth registration and their place of birth. Recommended for children under the age of 16.

A certified copy of birth registration is not recommended as a form of identification and is only required to meet certain legal requirements.
