Government Issued Vital Certificates

A Saskatchewan Birth Certificate is your foundation identity document and is used for obtaining a passport, driver’s licence, social insurance number and other legal documents and purposes.

Payment can be made by Visa, MasterCard or American Express and include all taxes and shipping costs.

No more than a maximum of 3 certificates or certified copies will be issued at one time.

If no record of the birth is found by the Saskatchewan Vital Statistics Agency, fees will be applied to the search cost and will not be refunded by the Agency.

Birth Certificate - $70.00 plus tax and issuing agency fee
Includes basic information, including subject’s name, place and date of birth.

Birth Certificate with Parental Information - $70.00 plus tax and issuing agency fee
Required to obtain a passport for a child. Includes the same information as a birth certificate, along with the name of each parent listed on the birth registration and their place of birth.

Certified Copy of Birth Registration - $70.00 plus tax and issuing agency fee
A certified copy of birth registration is not recommended as a form of identification and is only required to meet certain legal requirements. It is a copy of the original birth registration and has been certified a true copy by Vital Statistics.

Genealogical Photocopy of a Registration of Birth - $70.00 plus tax and issuing agency fee
Contains all the information that appears on the original registration and is stamped “For Genealogy Only”.

Who Can Apply for a Birth Certificate?

  • The person who is the subject of the certificate, if they are 15 years of age or older;
  • The parent, if the subject is less than 18 years old;
  • The custodial guardian, must provide papers;
  • The executor of the estate, must provide the will.

Saskatchewan Vital Statistics requires that you provide documentation to verify your identity for your protection.

If you are applying for a Saskatchewan Birth Certificate to support a separate application such as for a Passport, Driver's Licence, Immigration, or Native Status, it is important to check with the organization requesting the document to ensure you obtain the correct vital record. Changes cannot be made once an order has been placed.
